Wow - Andrew, our sponsored Irish Guide Dog in training is doing so well. We received this update on how he is doing in his training.

Andrew’s training has been coming on a treat. He is now just over a year old and about to head off to Cork for his adult training. When he is out and about on a training walk, he goes about the business of leading, walking calmly.
He is now good at ignoring the enticing smells of lamp posts - focussing instead on the treats he gets for doing so. He has been travelling on the Luas, a bus and in the car. He has not been able to enjoy the social life in cafes due to covid but has been very good at sitting down under park benches in preparation for a cafe lifestyle.
He is very aware of people. He walks up the stairs slowly next to me, waiting on the return for me to turn to go up the next flight of stairs. Although he is very sociable, he prioritises a call or whistle from me over playing with his friends - he has great recall. He is learning to avoid distractions when in a “wait” in a sit or down position.
On free runs Andrew is very sociable and likes to play with dogs of equal energy. Although he is no toughie when it comes to other dogs, he shows his confidence and belief in aiming high when it comes to what he thinks of as sticks but are, in reality, logs, as you can see in the photographs.

It's really fantastic to hear how he is learning and progressing as well as what he is good at and what are his favourite things to do. We are very excited for his future.

Rosie & Jim recently sponsored Rath National School €15,000 for a sensory room for children with special needs within the school.

The parents of the children attended the launch and had a lovely reception of tea and buns for Rosie.  They presented her with flowers and a lovely card on the day as a special thank you. We are both thrilled to be able to donate to a life changing resource like this.

Wishing the children at Rath N.S. many happy hours in the sensory room.

Rosie & Jim donate €200 to the Suzanne Tully benefit night.

Not all of our charity and community contributions are for organisations or well established charities. Sometimes we are approached by a small group who are affected by a big loss or cause.

Suzanne Tully sadly passed away very suddenly on September 28th aged only 40. She was a mother, daughter, partner and friend.

Her friends have organised a remembrance benefit night to celebrate Suzanne's life and try and support her partner and two children and got in touch with us.

We were happy to be able to donate €200 for this worthy cause.

Rosie & Jim are pleased to share they donated 400kg of Breaded Chicken Products to Bluebell Food Bank in June.

Rosie & Jim are humbled and thrilled to Make-A-Wish come true for Liam.

Thanks to Irene of Make-A-Wish for sending on this lovely letter.

Liam, age 7, from Galway, lives with a number of medical conditions including chronic lung disease, a metabolic condition called PKU and has an amputated leg. He wished for his own special garden that combines his two big loves – the outdoors and trains. The garden was specially designed to suit Liam’s needs and includes soft play surfaces, planting and landscape features to stimulate the senses, as well as a beautiful train for Liam to climb into and call his own! Liam’s dream of his own peaceful, accessible garden is now a reality thanks to the commitment and generosity of his friends, neighbours, the local business community and of course sponsorship from Rosie & Jim.

Liam’s Mum, Louise, said, “Liam was in hospital until he was four years old and since coming home he just loves playing outside and visiting his local train station to watch the trains come and go. It is truly amazing to have such a perfect place for Liam to call his own and enjoy. The surfaces are perfect for crawling on and he just loves having his very own train!”

Many thanks again for your sponsorship of Liam and Danielle’s wishes – I can guarantee you that the legacy of both will live on for a long time and bring joy and happiness to the lives of these very special children.

Best wishes,

Irene

Family Fun Day - Rosie & Jim Chicken ProductsThe Family Fun Day which takes place in August is a day that we dedicate to our children and their families.

It is a day of fun, laughter and activity where the children who use our service and all their family members are invited to come together on the grounds of LauraLynn – Ireland’s Children’s Hospice, where our staff and dedicated volunteers create a special day for them all. The day includes face painters, bouncy castles, games entertainers, stilt walkers, a marquee tent for activities, a DJ, Build-A-Bear, a first aid tent, a treasure hunt, as well as big BBQ and an ice cream van with spot prizes for all! All of the activities are especially designed and created for the participation of our children, and their families can join in the fun. This special day for our families would cost us over €6,000, but with the in-kind support of many suppliers, this cost is halved.

Rosie & Jim have this year sponsored the cost of this incredible event for us, ensuring the provision of a wonderful day for all the family to enjoy together.
